The Martianez area is one of Puerto de la Cruz' newer parts of town - it simply didn't exist 30 years ago.
Martianez is known for the large pool area between the boardwalk and the sea.
The Atlantic Ocean, whose waves pound the outer walls of the pool area, reminds you constantly of the fact that it can be a very bad idea to spend time between rock and large waves. This constant battle between rock and waves, however, also makes a great spectacle to watch while you're sunbathing close by.
While the San Telmo pedestrian area is the intimate, hectic shopping area, the pool area is the place to hang out half or all day and bask in the sun.
Another beach area has recently been finished to the East, offering mere sand and umbrella space for the sun hungry tourists.
The oldest building in Martianez, marking the Eastern end of the pedestrian zone between the old and the new part of town, is the San Telmo chapel. When it gets dusky, many muted lights are lit, setting the atmosphere for the upcoming night.
When on Tenerife, you can buy your drinking water the lasy and expensive way in the hotel minibar, or you can go down to the commercial centre, and get it at the same price as the locals. The CC Martianez is also a great place to find out about the shopping habits of the locals. A tip: try buying the local Nescafé instant coffee - the Spanish like coffee that tastes of something.
