The Orchid Garden was originally the garden of a convent. Eventually an Englishman took it over, and today it is a publicly accessible, for a reasonable entrance.
The garden is partitioned in a wide central gangway, with side gangways and lawns, and a single goldfish pond.
The garden was first designed to offer the nuns of the convent the right, calm setting to meditate over life and their belief. It has till this day kept this quality, and makes a pleasant tranquil place in an otherwise hectic holiday area.
The Strelitzia, which you can buy on Tenerife and have sent home, is present in the garden - it is not exclusively an orchid garden.
It is at the side gangways that you find the orchids. The shadowy wide covered corridors offer the orchids the best growth conditions.
Special flowerbeds a meter off the ground both ensure the health of the orchids and make it easier for the visitors to watch the beautiful flowers up close.
And now we go close...
Agatha Christie stayed for some time as a guest of the previous English owner of the garden, and wrote during her stay a crime story that takes place in the garden. This is remembered with a mannequin display.
